South Carolina State Fair...and thanks for reading....

Went to the South Carolina State Fair in Columbia.  Always a good opportunity to see the crowds and the locals.

And that was it for us....one more night in Atlanta and then it was all over and back to Vancouver.

Columbia South Carolina

Our almost-final destination was Columbia South Carolina.  This isn't a tourist town but we decided to spend three nights here so we could slow down and enjoy our last stop before Atlanta.  We used Airbnb for this one and rented a very inexpensive $40 dollar room in a townhouse.  Pretty good deal and nice area close to downtown....

Stopped for a Southern Buffet lunch for the usual $9

This is an inexpensive way to truly experience the South and have lunch too

Mimi checking out the fixin's...

The usual suspects....

Lunch is typically fried chicken...which is fine with me ;)

Took a stroll around the town....with toothpick in hand

A very pretty house and yard

Arrived at our Airbnb arranged accommodation

We are on the bottom floor...

Would of been quite nice except that bed is deadly on the back

Chicken wings and beer for dinner

North Carolina Barbecue and Lumberton

Pulled out of Kill Devil Hills and headed for Columbia South Carolina.  Stayed a night in Lumberton North Carolina which was a smallish town about half-way to Columbia.  Along the way thought we would try another variation of the North Carolina Barbecue at Skylight Inn in Ayden

Skyline Inn BBQ in Ayden NC

The customers were shyer than we were

Smoked pork with the crispy skin chopped into the mix....add your own vinegars

Lots of wood out back....

You'll have no problem finding a church in these parts

Spent the night in the basic Southern Inn motel.  Very comfortable....
