Outer Banks North Carolina

Stayed at the Outer Banks in Kill Devil Hills for three nights.  The Outer Banks is a 200-mile long string of narrow barrier islands off the coast of North Carolina.  Where we were was a bit touristy but just fine as it was low season and there weren't too many people around.

Another classic road side motel

Biggest room yet

It's all about the beach.....

The neighbors were friendly.  Most of them were here for a week

The Wright Brothers first flight was right here in Kitty Hawk

Their first flights were right here

A memorial to their achievement

Saw my first ever sunrise from the Ocean

You have never seen everything.  And seeing something as simple as a sunrise makes for a nice accomplishment

Kill Devil Hills North Carolina

Headed for the Outer Banks of North Carolina and got a beachfront motel room at a nice off season rate.

Stopped in on B's Barbecue

You can eat inside.....

...and we ate outside with Gordon

They were already cleaning the grills as it was about 12:30pm....

...and they load up the smoker at 2 or 3am

North Carolina Barbecue....chopped smoked pork usually mixed with vinegar

Served with fries, slaw and cornbread

Kept on going towards the Outer Banks

Have to photo some more cotton fields....as we are in the South ;)

This field is ready for harvest

Today machines are used to "pick" the cotton

Bales are shipped off

We took a sample and this is very high quality cotton

Anyway we are off to the Outer Banks....

A long nine hour drive along small roads have finally brought is to Kill Devil Hills NC

Mostly it is the drive to our wonderful Southern locations that are the special part of the journey
