First time to Florida. Picked an obscure small town about 220 miles outside of Alabama. Was really worried because the first 200 miles was nothing but strip malls and tourist trapped looking areas. "Real" Florida opened up and we were in the middle of it's beauty.
Not much choice in motels down here, seems the locals keep a tight rein on development, and we spent a quick night in the Dixie Belle Motel.
A classic old school roadside motel....right out of the movies. |
It was small but fine. And at night so quiet with the windows open to the ocean breeze. |
Small like an airplane washroom. |
Beach is right behind the Motel |
Looks beautiful but we were only on the beach 10 minutes. Took too long to drive here :( |
Very nice small downtown in Port St Joe |
We planned on coming here later but never made it |
Next day back on the road towards the Georgia coast |
Oystering is big biz here |
The South.....mobile home capital of the World |
Stopped at some tourist town for lunch....cannot remember the name ?? |
Was going to eat here for lunch but I remembered a sign I saw on the way into town..... |
....so we ate here instead |
Big mistake. But it filled us both up for $10 |
Continuing to Georgia....another long driving day |
Getting there....but too much highway.... |
Of course we try to stop for photos here and there... |
...and it's not every day you see a train full of tanks rolling by |
Another small town somewhere.... |
Ah it's Waycross of course.... |
